Your expensive store-bought scent works hard to attract your attention; semi-to-fully naked beautiful people writing around a perfume bottle is hard to resist! While they might smell lovely, let’s look at what’s hiding in your perfume;
- Parabens:synthetic preservatives, known for disrupting your body’s hormone balance.
- Phthalates:used as fragrance preservatives, they are found in high concentrations in most commercial perfumes. Phthalates are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.
- Petrochemicals:compounds derived from petroleum and natural gases. Producing petrochemicals is highly energy-intensive, so they’re bad for the planet; and they can trigger allergic reactions like eczema and rashes or even asthma, so they’re bad for you too.
Our sense of smell is the most evocative sense but it is often overlooked because we rely so much on what we see and what we hear. When you smell something familiar it can trigger a memory much quicker than any of your other senses can. It is immediate. The olfactory bulb is part of the brain’s limbic system, which is really closely associated with memory. As 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream, it’s clear that our perfume becomes a part of us in more ways than one, and so it’s important to always choose products that are natural.

I recently made the switch from perfumes to Arbonne’sRescue & Renew Collectionof essential oils. If you have very sensitive skin or simply want to avoid using harsh chemicals that are harmful to your health, or if safety and sustainability are important to you, than these oils are for you. I love the LavenderPure Essential Oil which I use straight onto my skin. It’s my favourite to apply just after a shower at night before I go to bed. Did you know Lavender essential oils have a rich history of usage dating back to over 2000 years and have been a favourite of the Egyptians, Greeks and English Royalty during the Victorian era, for its relaxing effect.
I also use the Harmony Blend as a day perfume. It’s a sparkling blend of oils like orange, lavender, rosemary, and ginger to foster harmony. This has been so nice on our break to NZ- that’s my husband in the grass above, and its what I will think of every time I smell that scent.
Arbonne’s 100% pure essential oils are:
- sustainably sourcedfrom the seed, peel, stem, root, and flower
- carefully extracted using steam distillation or cold pressing techniques
- can be diffused to create an aromatic surroundingor applied topically onto the skin.
- Divine and make you smell (and feel) wonderful- I think this is clinically proven but I can assure you it is Little Foot proven.
These oils can also be used as:
Add 1–2 drops to facial cleansers, toners, body washes, shampoos, conditioners, and even masks or scrubs, and other rinse-off skincare products, or add a couple drops to water in a spray bottle and spritz on pillows, linens and mattresses to refresh and promote a relaxing scent.
